Blended Learning is not so much an innovation as it is a natural by-product of the digital domain creeping into physical spaces.

Broadly speaking, blended learning just means a mix of learning online and face-to-face, which means it’s likely your students are already doing some form of blended learning, and have for years.

Preparing for the digital university: a review of the history and current state of distance, blended, and online learning

Preparing for the digital university: a review of the history and current state of distance, blended, and online learning | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

The sheer scale of numbers of students led to bold proclamations of education disruption and a sector on the verge of systemic change. However, from the perspective of 2015, these statements appear increasingly erroneous as moocs have proven to be simply an additional learning opportunity instead of a direct challenge to higher education itself. Many of the issues confronting early mooc development and offerings could have been reduced if greater consideration was given to research literature in learning sciences and technology enabled learning.

Blended learning emphasizes the best in all learners

Blended learning emphasizes the best in all learners | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
If you’ve been paying attention to education news lately, you’ve probably noticed that the conversation around technology in the classroom is shifting. When edtech first burst onto the scene almost three decades ago, access to more technology – devices, broadband – was everything. Educators, policymakers and parents all wanted to know how to get as many devices into the hands of students as soon as possible. How students leveraged technology to support learning would not become a primary focus for many years to come.

Blended Learning: What and Why

Blended Learning: What and Why | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Today teachers at all levels of instruction and in all disciplines likely make use of online tools, services and information. In a face-to-face class, Internet resources supplement what is supplied by the instructor and print materials, while online learning and course management services facilitate student coursework and help track learning progress. In completely online courses, the Internet supplies the medium of instruction, and interactions with peers, instructor, and materials occur digitally. Increasingly popular today is blended or hybrid learning, which combines the best features of face-to-face and online courses.

The Definition Of Blended Learning

The Definition Of Blended Learning | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

"Blended education. Hybrid learning. Flipping the classroom. Whatever one chooses to call it, this method of learning–which combines classroom and online education–is going places and making headlines along the way. While education experts continue to debate the efficacy of hybrid learning, its very existence has challenged them to re-evaluate not just technology’s place in (and out of) the classroom, but also how to reach and teach students more effectively."
